FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Welcome, I invite you to ask questions on my contact page. I am happy to answer any and all questions related to health and healing when it comes to your body, mind, heart and soul. In recently adding this FAQ'S page, I copied over many questions I've answered on Quora. Since they have begun censoring me and want to begin charging a subscription fee for people to read my answers, I prefer to answer on my own website.

I have found intermittent fasting to be the most popular question. Too many are overthinking it. It is much easier than most believe. I have answered many here. Need clarification? Please ask.

Until next time, I look forward to answering your questions here on my own website without all the censoring.

When intermittent fasting, can I eat lunch and breakfast at the same time and still eat dinner during my 8-hour window? I’m 14 and still growing.

Absolutely, that’s why it’s called Brunch. I often times do Dunch (lunch/dinner). Most important thing about intermittent fasting is the eight hour window. Gotta keep it in sync with your body’s circadian rhythm.

You are oh so smart to start young.

Why do so many people recommend starving yourself with intermittent fasting now?

Intermittent fasting is far from starving, it is how most of us Baby Boomers were raised. It is done mostly while we sleep, provided you do not work graveyard. Those recommending you starve do not know what they’re talking about. My last many answers explains intermittent fasting.

Can I lose fat eating carbs while doing intermittent fasting? (I'm not too fat but slightly overweight, I'm 24 years old 5'8 height and 80kg which convert to 176lbs).

You can but you’d be taking five steps forward and three steps back. Reason being is we crave what is in our blood. You may consider reading about grains. Omitting many of those will help tame the taste buds, making you less hungry. While carbs are necessary, if you are eating the not so healthy white gluten rich carbs, you will continue to crave and/or never feel satisfied, causing you to eat more. Those types of carbs are also like paper mâché, they get stuck inside of you, causing a host of problems from cysts, tumors, parasites and more.

The book, Fit For Life, first edition by Harvey and Marilyn Diamond can help you. It is a quick read on proper food combing, which will help you digest quicker and eliminate more often. Daily poops are key to weight loss. Bad carbs slow that down.

Don’t forget to drink plenty of water between meals.

In what ways can fasting help someone with the symptoms of polymyalgia rheumatica?

Anytime we give our digestive system a break, our body will respond favorably. It may feel like we are getting worse, but not. It is our body’s way of healing itself naturally. As our body release toxic waste/weight our blood becomes cleaner, which always helps pain. I have two birth defects and two types of neuralgia. Had I not had decades of detox behind me, I do feel I’d be dead by now.

We are often tested to show God what we’re made of. Fasting will help tremendously, as long as you prepare beforehand and ease your way back to eating. Diet/the FARMacy and detox can do wonders for your body, mind, heart and soul.

Do Melatonin Fast Dissolve tablets (strawberry flavored) break intermittent fasting?

No, nothing that small, especially since it dissolves will effect intermittent fasting. If you had been fasting for days, it may cause upset stomach.

How do you heal after binge drinking?

Ouch. Should you feel sick charcoal tablets help.. Consider coffee enemas. They will help take your cravings away as well as help purge the poison. The cleaner our body, the easier it is to respect it and eat and drink what's best for it. Should you not want to do a coffee enema, you can buy magnesium citrate, Target had for .99 cents. That will purge your liver, tho I'd get charcoal tablets to help slow the flow. You will poop liquid so use caution passing gas.

In time, consider doing deep down cleanses. They are incredible for what ails our body, mind, heart and soul. Detox has been my best religion. It teaches us a whole new level of respect and love for ourselves. It has a way of fixing the why you decided to binge drink.

Above all, be kind to yourself. Consider wholesome soups and nourishing drinks.

Can fasting shrink the stomach?

It sure can and a whole lot more great things. Using a hula hoop helps darn near give you a six pack. You don’t need to fast to shrink your stomach, just eat real food, incorporate intermittent fasting, and drink lots of water between meals. The book, Fit For Life by Harvey and Marilyn Diamond is excellent. First edition is the best and a quick read.

If you have never done a detox, I would consider that before doing a fast. It will help make fasting easier. Of course, easing your way off food is quite critical for the least side effects.

Can I eat fruit like grapes or a pear during the eating window when I intermittent fast?

Absolutely! Fruit gets a bad rap despite being a healthy snack. I’ve answered many questions on intermittent fasting, those should help you understand it better. Key is to not over think it.

Is intermittent fasting comparatible with working out / muscle growth? I am a 17yr old basketball player and work out 3-4 times a week besides practice, can intermittent fasting help me recover faster or is it damaging?

Intermittent fasting is far from damaging. What it does is help your body absorb the nutrients. The sixteen hour window of not eating helps your body eliminate the toxic waste that weighs us down and zaps us of our energy, concentration, mood, and more.

I’ve answered a ton of questions on intermittent fasting. Those will give you more details. Quora will either merge this or delete if I repeat myself too much.

High five on wanting to be your best naturally! Even grander is you’re starting young.

Is intermittent fasting really just calorie restriction?

No, it is simply a specific eight hour timeframe you can eat. Not a fan of counting calories. Just eat real food and drink lotsa water between meals. Real food found on outer four walls of grocery store. The stuff in the middle tends to be more addicting, higher caloried, and filled with things most can’t pronounce.

The book, Fit For Life by Harvey and his wife Diamond. First edition best and a very quick read. Teaches proper food combining for easier weight loss and optimal health.

Hi to you all, does anyone know how to lose weight without forming a bad habit, GMO ingredients, and no stimulants?

I had an answer on best ways to lose weight. It grew to forty tips, but Quora took it down. My website has it, but in a nutshell…

Drink plenty of water between meals, practice intermittent fasting, the book, Fit For Life first edition is EXCELLENT and a quick read. It’s all about proper food combining to get your body to eliminate the toxic weight. Intermittent fasting helps that too.

Since we crave what’s in our blood, getting that clean is key. My former employer Dr. Schulze sells a Formula #1 that helped one man lose 50+/- pounds overnight. Old stuck on waste, just like doctors found in John Wayne and Elvis Presley. Each day you increase dosage until all hell breaks loose. I mean, the waste dislodges itself. Twenty-eight days later he expelled the toxic waste. Much of it caused by white carbs (bread, pasta, etc). That paper mache like plaque takes time. Too much dairy is another that can wreak havoc on your digestion. Also causes mucus, which traps more gunk.

Buy your groceries from the outer four walls of grocery store, that’s where the real food is. You can also buy wild. It’s organic without the pampering.

Lastly, but hardly my last tip… Ozzie Osborn’s son (Jack???) lost a huge amount of weight with coffee enemas. One client of mine lost 54 pounds in a matter of months. Coffee enemas were used in WWII for pain, but they help with so much more. When we get the toxic waste out everything looks, feels, and works better. That to include your mind and spirit.

pssst… bad habits can be stopped by taming the taste buds. All the above helps. Key to weight loss is daily bowel movements and a clean liver. It really is that simple. When our liver is stagnant it stores fat, instead of using bile to wash it away. Target has magnesium citrate for .99 cents. That will help purge your liver. You may even get a gallstone or two out. We all have them. USE CAUTION PASSING GAS should you drink. Charcoal tablets helps slow the flow. Great for food poisoning, stomach flu and even a hangover. Should it not budge anything out, you can repeat on a day you’ll be home.

best of wishes!

How much important is meal frequency to build muscle mass? What about intermittent fasting?

Meal frequency should be based on how active your lifestyle. More importantly is what you eat. Gorillas eat greens and are huge. I’ve known vegan body builders. While I don’t recommend that, I’m just saying real food, those found on outer four walls of grocery store, will give you the best results.

As for intermittent fasting, that helps keep your body clean and able to absorb nutrients. Done properly, combined with a nutrient defense diet and you’re sure to get results. Of course, exercising your muscles helps. Whatever you do, try to avoid quick fixes. Building muscle over time naturally will have longer lasting results than taking a pill or a drink. Always read labels.

During my marathon training days I ate a lot. I was quite hooked on Thai food. Listen to your body and make it real because we crave what is in our blood. We are what we eat, so decide how you want to look and feel ten years from now. The more real the food, the higher you vibrate. The FARMacy has a way of transforming us from the inside out and head to toe. If we let it. Our body, mind, heart and soul love it when we eat only what we were created to eat.

Just as a vehicle being given chips and soda will die, eating anything and everything is literally a slow suicide.

How does fasting for 48 hours straight boost health, especially compared to 24-hour fasting?

It will vary for everyone simply because their diet, lifestyle, and gut health are different. For a pizza eating hamburger loving eater, it can take longer. Certain carbs have a way of acting like paper mache. I’ve been a vegetarian since a child, nowadays I don’t even eat eggs, and I still get gunk out.

For each year we abuse our body, it can take a month to undo. 24 or 48 hours are better than nothing, but oftentimes our body begins to peel away the gunk, then the person goes back to eating so process stops. I don’t recommend a fast as a first detox. When I fast, I also include water, charcoal and/or bentonite clay, and a coffee enema. I mention because if you want to make the most of any fast then preparation is key. Then giving it your all to help the process will indeed boost body, mind, and soul health. Sure I’ve done dry and water fasts, but the results were no better than if I include fresh juice, water, clay, etc.

Problem is, everyone wants a quick fix or use fasting as a green light to eat anything and everything. We crave what is in our blood. The longer the fast and the more you help it along will always result in better results and taming of the taste buds.

Lastly, fasting is always easier during warmer weather.

What are the possible reasons why a person who had intermittent fasting for the past two months had been feeling weak during dance rehearsals?

Intermittent fasting should not cause weakness. If anything, it will give you energy. Were you doing from 6–7pm to 10–11am? If not, try that. Intermittent fasting really shouldn’t effect what we eat, only when, so not sure why the weakness. Perhaps you need to change your diet up a bit?

How many ways does fasting help with mental health, and why?

Our body is like the trunk of a tree and the rest the branches. When we get our gut clean/take care of the roots, the rest of the body and brain begin to realease toxic waste, mucus, dirty blood and more.

When we give our vehicle what it needs, including oil and filter changes it thrives. Why, because its clean. Our body and brain need that TENDOLD.

I for one went from struggling thru junior high, high school and first two years of college to straight “A's" after I began detoxing. I became smarter, calmer, and more spiritual. As in, cleanliness is next to Godliness. Fasting and detox in general have been my best religion.

So you know tho, our brain needs water and healthy fat, so make sure you get those too.

You'd be surprised what fasting can do. Can clear sinuses you never knew were stuffed. Can help you hear and see better. Once you open the main channel, the rest of the body begins to trickle its waste out. Like stuck on waste in the body, our brain too gets plaque.

You gotta try it to believe it, tho you don't need to begin with a fast. A simple detox first will make the fast easier and more effective. The one I love is Dr. Schulze’s Formula #1 & 2. Prior to working for him I thought he was a bit much. Nope! He has bragging rights. His products are pure, no fillers and worth their weight in gold. Not to mention organic and wild. Each day you increase Formula 1 by one capsule IF no results. One customer got up to twenty-eight capsules before the old stuck on waste dislodged itself. That night he lost 50+/- pounds. That much toxic weight can have a negative effect on all organs, as well as the spine, spinal cord and brain.

Even mechanics know everything is connected. And finally, with Alzheimer’s being referred to as Type 3 Diabetes, it will help those too.

Why is it important to fast until 72 hours instead of 60 hours? What makes doing without food for 72 hours more beneficial for health?

Because 24 hours times three is 72. This allows your circadian rhythm/internal clock to go thru all its processes. Of course time of day you start would be important. Going the distance just may be what your body needs to get some stuck on toxic waste out.

When I do a one day fast I go from dinner to dinner. I never go by actual hours, I go by days. Long fasts I always start in the morning, but not unless I wean off food.

How does intermittent fasting help you in fitness and meditation?

It helps body rid itself of toxic waste/weight. With that come more energy and clear mind.

Would vaping while fasting ruin my fast?

I use cannabis for pain. It has never ruined my fasts. I'd consider trying a lesser dose tho. It may have a stronger effect on an empty stomach.

Like fasting before certain medical procedures, often times medications are allowed. I've taken a handful of vitamins on an empty stomach and felt crazy sick just a few hours later. That may be the only draw back, which is why I suggest a lesser dose.

In a perfect world however, your vape should not have any harmful filter ingredients. Not sure if they still make those, but keep it real. Stay away from the hype of flavored, unless you know it's pure. Hmmm… just realized I assumed you were referring to cannabis.

I am a HUGE believer of it. My brother survived cancer almost 40 years ago using marijuana. Meanwhile, our parents are both gone of cancer going conventional route.

Fasting is a perfect time to stop nicotine smoking. We crave what's in our blood, fasting helps take that away. Lobelia tincture, as long as it's pure, helps rid people of nicotine addiction. Also helps purge the lungs.

What is the fidya for one fasting?

I had to look at the definition. I actually have a long list of ailments due to two birth defects. They are why I’ve learned a lot over my lifetime. I hate looking and feeling far from my best. These issues have not stopped me from fasting or detoxing. Instead, they taught me much and have kept me in the upright position. Most people with just ONE of my many ailments are bedridden often. That is not an option for me, which is why I am forever tweaking my diet and lifestyle. I also detox regularly and use coffe enemas for pain.

As for the donation aspect of fidya, I don’t know enough to talk about it. I will say, fasting does not need to be elaborate, but should be entered into and ended with preparations. Especially the weaning off food beforehand and the gradual way you should start back eating. If cost is an issue, you can do with water or buy some really healthy organic/non GMO juice. Then use that to fast. You can either alternate juice and water or dilute your juice with water.

I hope this helps answer your question. From what I’ve read, it sounds religious. So you know, the powers that be love to see what we’re made of. Illness, dis-ease, and even financial problems can be our chance to show God/the gods, we mean business. It is not what happens to us that matter but instead how we respond that gets us on God’s radar.

My advice? Don’t give up. Whatever the issue with fidya can be your opportunity for empowerment. If. You. Let. It.

Should I fast for 24 hours twice a week or shorter periods more frequently?

If that’s you in the photo, you look fairly young and healthy. Is your goal to lose weight or preventative? You know what’s even better? Raising your Chrism. Every 28.5 days the moon is in the sign it was in when you were born. It is there for 2.5 days.

You’ll need to find where the moon was in your natal chart. There are many online resources. Once you have that, go to Moontracks

to find when the moon is in your sign. For me it is Sagittarius. This year I decided to fast one day during each of my 2.5 days, while the other 1.5 I eat and drink as alkaline as I can.

It can sound confusing, but there are two men online that talk a lot about it. First is Santos Bonacci. The other is Charlie Freak. While many are wasting away their fluids, raising the Chrism helps bring them up your spine. This is how many in Biblical times lived for hundreds of years. They did not blow their precious fluids away. I don’t want to confuse you, so consider looking at those two men doing it.

As for fasting two days a week, I wouldn’t. I’d consider doing the intermittent fasting instead combined with raising the Chrism each month. Then perhaps a detox every season 4 x’s/year). If you’ve never done a cleanse, the first one usually and should take the longest, after that it is merely maintenance. Fasting that often can confuse your body into holding onto weight. Like yo-yo dieting. Also, it’s a great idea to drink plenty of water between meals, helps keep us full longer and eat less. Then again, I don’t know your situation. But overweight or not, these tips are healthcare at its finest.

Cheers and well wishes!

Is it necessary to cleanse the body before starting any diet regimen? Why and how?

Not necessary but very smart. It will help tame the taste buds. We crave what is in our blood, getting that clean can make a world of difference in your dieting results. Done long enough and you may only need to switch up your diet some.

Dieting has a way of depriving us. Detox gets the toxic waste/weight out, making it easier to eat healthy/real food.

An easy way to kickstart your diet is taking something like Dr. Schulze's Formula #1&2. In working for that doctor I read everything I could get my hands on. He had a patient in Hawaii that lost over 50 pounds of stuck on waste taking Formula #1. Like John Wayne and Elvis Presley having 40 & 60 (or 60 & 40) pounds of stuck on waste during their autopsy, that man did too. But so do we in lesser degrees.

Detox will give your body new life, breathe and feel lighter. It is the best gift we can give our body, mind, and spirit. Just know you may get cramping, and once that initial cleanse is done, consider doing maintenance. Diet and detox are truly the best healthcare.

There are many ways to detox. I've written extensively on over twenty-five, but that one is easy and very effective. From there you can target organs. A clean liver alone helps wash away fat. But, you need your bowel eliminating daily first. Trust me.

Cheers to a healthier you!

Does prayer and fasting bring money?

I wish it were that simple. I believe it's not only different for each of us, but when and where we were born has an effect.

I've always heard, do what you love and the money will follow. However, again, I wish it were that simple. Many times God gives us dis-ease and/or money problems to see what we're made of. Many whose purpose is great get tested the most. Whatever you do, don't take the easy way out. Always listen to your gut, not your head or others.

If/when times are tough, it's not what happens to us that matter, but instead how we respond that gets us on God's radar. Lastly, the more we feed our soul, the less hungry we become. A good way to start is to allow yourself to become so bored it hurts. Six months on a mountain alone did that for me. Lockdowns were a perfect time for many to awaken their spirit, instead too many saw it as torture.

So, bottom line… allow yourself to get quiet. You just may get your unique answer. God managed to break three bones to get me to listen. That after I ignored the messages for five years. Prayer and fasting are wonderful, just don't put all your eggs in one basket. Equally as important is what and when you eat.

During one of my ten day fasts, I had someone ask if I were Hari Krishna. I appeared very enlightened. So while physical wealth may not come fast, your spiritual health will make you more prepared for when it does come. Fear not. Feed your soul and your mind and body will follow.

I do intermittent fasting, eat 800 kcl a day and run 30 minutes every morning. Is this enough to lose weight?

I've seen so many people sweat up a storm and not lose weight. Everyone is different. I am not a fan of counting calories. As long as what you do eat is real and you are eliminating daily, you should lose weight. Intermittent fasting merely gives our body a break. A much needed one to help our body release the toxic waste/weight.

I wouldn't worry so much about counting calories, especially if you're running. I ate more than men during my marathon training days. Our body needs healthy carbs/glucose to fuel our body.

You should lose weight but not knowing your age, weight, or health, consider switching it up if you plateau or begin not feeling or looking so well. Key to weight loss is daily poops and plenty of water between meals.

You can always jumpstart your health regimen with a detox, tho best to do during warmer months.

Can I fast from 6am to 12pm?

Absolutely, tho you can also add fresh juice, water and/or tea. Will help get your body eliminating, which is the perfect time for doing it, based on our body's internal clock.

That said, it is healthiest to stop eating hours before bed. That will give your body plenty of time to digest, absorb and begin releasing the toxic waste/weight out via urine and bowel movements. With the latter being key for optimal weight and health.

Lastly, when you don't eat right before bed, you won't wake up hungry. This is the vicious cycle many live and wonder why they don't look or feel their best. When we don't allow our body to eliminate daily, our taste buds have a way of taking over. Reason being, we crave what is in our blood. It really is that simple.

Cheers and well wishes!

Would you dare to do intermittent fasting?

Yep. Tho nothing daring about it. It has become a way of life. Nothing to think about. Practiced long enough and it helps your body begin thinking for itself. As in, you will not want to go to bed on a full stomach. You'll also wake up in a better mood, more energized and less hungry.

For most of us Baby Boomer's, there was no other way. Kitchen was pretty much closed after dinner and there was no such thing as 24/7 places to eat.

When you eat late you tend to not only wake hungry and think you have a blood sugar issue, you wake more tired, foggy eyed, and heavy brained. Knowing how I feel with intermittent fasting makes the alternative less enticing. Waking up puffy and constipated is not worth going backwards. I like waking feeling better than not.

How can I eat 1,500 calories while fasting 16/8? I find it hard to eat that many calories from 3pm to 11pm.

Those hours are not in alignment with your body's circadian rhythm, for starters. I believe calories are overrated. Are you counting to lose weight? If so, just eat real food and drink water between meals. You'll get full on much less food. Don't know your height, weight, age, or lifestyle, but that many calories sounds like a lot that late in the day. Unless you're training for a marathon.

What are the side effects of fasting as a teenager?

Not sure how long the fast but, can be better skin, weight loss, clear thinking, better grades, more energy, and even creativity. When I think of side effects it sounds negative. Perhaps you were wanting to know the benefits? If not, I list some side effects below.

After struggling thru junior high, high school and my first two years of college, I began detoxing and getting straight “A's. I went from not being able to run a mile to running a full marathon, a half and 10K’s.

Fasting alone may take longer to get the results you want, but better than nothing. Fasting is best done during warmer months. If you've never fasted, I'd consider doing a different type of detox first then combine with intermittent fasting. A really good and easy detox to begin is Dr. Schulze's Formula #1 & 2.

Should you still decide to fast, make sure you wean off food then ease your way back on. I've answered many questions on that.

If you were wanting to know of any negative side effects, those can range from headaches, breath and body odor, fatigue, hunger, bloating, cold and flu like symptoms, aches, pains and even anger. Side effects and benefits not limited to these lists.

Good luck, you're smart for starting young. Just don't go too GUNG HO too soon. Once you start, best to make detox a life long habit like maintenance on a vehicle.

What are some of the longer term impacts of fasting on health? What benefits from fasting are mostly only temporary?

If fasting not done long enough and/or begun and ended with your body in mind then cravings can and will return. One main purpose of any type of detox is a recalibration of our taste buds and digestive system. Like a bad stomach flu or food poisoning, they can be a blessing in disguise if we heed the need to switch up our diet. Recently, 4 out of 7 people in a recent painting class I took got Omicron last week. While I am not yet 100%, I am thankful for the reset it gave me. I am once again eating like a rabbit.

Any and all benefits can be temporary if you go back to eating anything and everything. Detox done long enough can be a spiritual awakening. You’ll know it’s working when begin craving only what your body was created to take in. Of course, it can be short lived should your test buds roar their ugly head and get their way.

Longer impacts are endless. From self respect, clear mind, better vision, fresh breath, no body odor, optimal weight, inner peace and even creativity. We owe it to ourselves to bring out our full potential. Fasting and detox help. Just know, for each year we abuse our body it can take a month to undo. I’ve got decades under my belt and still get $#!T out.

Where can I find a water fasting accountability partner/group?

If you've never fasted, I would not start with water. To fast with the least side effects, best to wean off and back on food. Have you tried MeetUp or social media? Whenever I did the Master/Lemonade ten day fast, I'd recruit others to join me. That may be what you need to do. Can be very empowering for you.

Lastly, fasting best done in warmer months.

How do I come off a juice cleanse?

You can transition to smoothies, then salads then soups then back to regular meals. Three days minimum before you eat heavy cooked foods.

Listen to your gut. The longer your cleanse the longer you should take to ease back on solid food. By this time your taste buds should be recalibrated to crave more nutrient dense foods. If not, no worries. Your body will begin to get full on less and/or no longer crave heavy meals.

It may take more than one cleanse to get to that point, at least it did for me. Took years to get rid of my chip addiction. Nowadays, most chips are too greasy.

Cheers to a happy healthy new year!

Can fasting cause sleeplessness?

Yes, it can cause a burst of energy. Reason being is your body is not working to digest your food. Fasting/detox done long enough can also cause sleepiness. Your body is working thru any and all old symptoms, including cold, flu, aches and pains. No worries, those too shall pass. Enjoy the ride!

Drinking plenty of water helps.

Is it better to fast for 12 or 16 hours?

16 is more in tune to your body's internal clock, however, 12 is great. You won't know till you try. If results plateau, increase to sixteen. All the above, provided it is done during circadian rhythm timeframes. Happy healthy new year!

Is it possible while on the 16 : 8 to have 2 eating windows, for example 10am to 2pm then fast until 6pm and eat from 6pm to 10pm? And fast for 12 hours until first window again at 10am?

You can, and while it would be intermittent, it doesn't align 24/7 to your body's internal clock/circadian rhythm.

Something is better than nothing, especially when you give your body ample time to digest between meals. As long as you see and feel results, continue. Just know, you may plateau. If that happens, adjust times again. Several posts back, I attached some timeframes. One way to know if it is helping is if you are eliminating daily, without coffee. One key to weight loss is daily poops.

Happy New Year!

Is intermittent fasting for weight loss considered a type of meal restriction?

Yes and no. You simply stop eating hours before bed. Growing up in the 60’s my mother always said, “kitchen's closed,” and she meant it.

Nowadays many graze all day long. Reason being, meals they do eat are nutrient deficient, so body needs more. This is why there are many overweight malnourished people.

I've answered many questions on intermittent fasting. The latest one or two have an attachment showing best times to eat and not eat based on our internal clock/circadian rhythm.

Intermittent fasting is so easy. It is what most Baby Boomers were raised doing and why older generations are healthier than younger ones. Prior to 24/7 and/or all-you-can-eat places, we ate to satisfaction, not to the point of stuffed. We fed our body not our taste buds.

Only real food can satiate us with less. It is not the calories so much as it is the nutrients that we need. It is why I quit the Dietician program at ASU and got my holistic nutrition bachelor's degree. (That and returning to CA to help my mom). Calories are overrated. Sure they cause weight gain, but mostly because most food is dead.

Only real food helps us have daily bowel movements, WITHOUT coffee. If you are not having daily bowel movements, I'd start there. It will help you crave what your body was meant to eat. The toxic waste/weight will no longer take over your taste buds.

My former employer, Dr. Schulze has a great Formula #1 & 2 that can help get you started. We crave what is in our blood. Get that clean and cravings go away, making intermittent fasting a piece of cake. No thinking or trying involved, it just happens as we gain respect for our body.

Help your body and your mind and spirit follow suite. Best gift you can give yourself.

Happy New Year!

What type of food should be eaten after a long fast to avoid refeeding syndrome?

Never heard of refeeding syndrome, but do know we crave what is in our blood.

Best way to come off a fast is with raw food, salads, smoothies or light soup. I've written many times on how to wean off then back on food.

Like an alcoholic falling off the wagon, only eat what you want your body to crave, the FARMacy.

Chips were my drug of choice, no longer. Thank God! With enough cleansing, you too will be able to walk away from empty calories.

Just know, fasting is easier during warmer months.

Does intermittent fasting change your brain?

Anything that helps your gut helps your brain. I went from struggling thru Jr. High, High School and my first two years of college to getting straight A's with minimal effort for my Bachelor's. All other classes beyond that the same, including acing my real estate test.

Now mind you, I've also been detoxing for decades. Intermittent fasting was just one healthy habit I incorporated. I changed my diet too.

It's incredible how our mind, body and spirit respond when given real food and cleaned from the inside out. But yes, it will help, it'll just take longer without a change in diet or detox.

Lastly, I also went from not being able to run due to asthma to running a full marathon, a half one and several 10k’s. Fasting makes us nicer too.

Good luck, and try not to give up. Your mind, body, and spirit will thank you.

Why do medical doctors and intermittent fasting experts say that a time frame of 4pm to 12am won’t work? My schedule simply won‘t allow for a traditional 11am-7pm.

Smart doctors for knowing that much, most haven’t a clue. While I agree, it is better than nothing. I take it you work graveyard? The reason you won’t get the full benefits is because your body has an internal clock, a circadian rhythm. If you look through some of my previous posts, you’ll find this one. It shows why those hours don’t exactly match your body’s internal clock.

If your schedule won’t allow, simply try to move the times you do and don’t eat to align more with your circadian rhythm. Only then will you get the best results. Reason being is our body was created to do certain things at certain times as shown here.

Can I do 3 water fasts and then break it in one day and the other day can I do it again?

Absolutely, tho not sure your body will be happy. Especially if you do during colder weather. I recently answered a similar question that explains more.

Not sure your reason for fasting, diet? Health? If you have never done a detox, consider that first and always wean off and back on food before and after a fast. You can cause severe constipation and experience unpleasant side effects if you don't.

Please see my latest answers for more detailed information.

What is the main liquid ingredient in a shake?

It can be anything you want, depending on how sweet you want it. If I use water I add yogurt to thicken. I've used kefir, orange or apple juice, oat, walnut or almond milk. Sometimes raw organic milk, tho I've since switched to goat which is creamier. I don't use the milk to drink, I make kefir. Oh… oranges cut up with rind (if organic) and your choice of milk gives it a wonderful Orange Julius taste. I've made shakes/smoothies with just those two ingredients. Very tasty. Cut up papaya with water as a base is equally as delicious.

Has intermittent fasting made you taller?

Never say never (not that you did). Having a clean gut helps height by allowing us to stand straight. Healthy eating helps circulation, which may help growth. Don’t know your age, but do know anything’s possible.

Have you tried an inversion board, like a Teeter? If all else fails, you can always try prayer. No joke. Just be nice and humble.

I want to start waterfasting but I am finding it really difficult to maintain. The last time I fasted properly was 3 years ago for 6 days. How do I stick to a water fast without getting tired or hungry?

Not sure where you are in the world, but fasting during colder weather not easy. Best way to make it a success is to wean off food over a period of at least three days. COUNTDOWN as follows: Day 3 omit animal products, Day 2 cut out cooked food, Day 1 eat raw and/or lite soups, or salads, juices, and smoothies. You can then end your fast by reversing the above order.

Oftentimes fasting is difficult when we have a lot on our plate or mind. Feeding our soul makes us less hungry.

Easiest way to stay focused and energized is by helping fast along. If you aren’t eliminating what your body is releasing, you are circulating toxic waste/weight. THAT is what makes you tired and hungry, since we crave what is in our blood. To help it along, you can drink a detox tea, a salt type drink (water with salt) or do a rinse or coffee enema. Any or all will help your body release, keep you focused, energized and less hungry. Coffee enemas are powerful. So powerful, I’ve helped people get off drugs with them and a whole body detox. Cravings go away as soul gets fed. I kid you not. Detox has been my best religion.

Should there be music or a mantra that you resonate with, it helps to listen and/or repeat it as needed. Silently works.

Is intermittent fasting effective? Can it reduce belly fat?

Very and yes. Reason being it gives your body a break and your digestive system time to assimilate and eliminate. Daily bowel movements help keep belly fat down/toxic weight out. As do real food and a hula hoop. The latter gave me a six pack rather quick.
